Celebrated weirdo Tom Waits (whose 1985 Rain Dogs album SPIN recently named one of the 300 greatest of the last 30 years) and talk show host David Letterman go way back, with the former appearing on the latter’s show Late Night With David Letterman no fewer than ten times since 1983.
For his final appearance on the show last night, Waits introduced a new ballad, “Take One Last Look,” dedicated to the retiring host, and sat down for an interview (standard practice for Waits but unusual for most musical guests). Scroll down for the song and the interview, which is the usual treat if you’re familiar with Waits’ non-sequitur-filled, brusquely acerbic interrogations.
