Refused Announce First Album in 17 Years, ‘Freedom’

Refused are fucking alive. After declaring that “Refused Are Fucking Dead” in 1998, the Swedish hardcore act have reformed and announced plans to release their first new album in 17 years. Titled Freedom, the record will arrive on June 30 via Epitaph. In addition to the follow-up to 1998’s The Shape of Punk to Come, the band has a fiery new track titled “Elektra,” which you can listen to below.

Though the band briefly came back together in 2012 for a Coachella performance and reunion tour, frontman Dennis Lyxzén has made it clear that “it’s not a reunion anymore.” He continues, “This is one of the most radical things we’ve ever done, both musically and lyrically.”
