If you want to hear the new Goodie Mob song “I’m Set” in its entirety, you’re going to have to pay up, because the reunited Atlanta rap innovators’ new video is full of bizarre interruptions. Like a cable box on the fritz, the footage cuts back and forth between the quartet miming to the hard-charging track on the one hand, and Discovery Channel-like footage of plane crashes, warfare, animals, and a dude smoking weed on the other. There are a few special effects thrown in for good measure, like when the Mob combines powers to set off a huge shockwave, or something.
Still, even with the obnoxious diversions, the chopped-up rumbler sounds way better than last year’s comeback single “Fight to Win.” “I’m Set” is the latest track from the upcoming Age Against the Machine, Goodie Mob’s first album with all four original members — Cee Lo Green, Khujo, T-Mo, and Big Gipp — since 1999’s disappointing World Party. The LP is due out August 27 via Elektra and features appearances by T.I., Big Fraze, Big Rube, and Janelle Monae, who sings on the oddly dubsteppy “Special Education.” Apparently Cee Lo doesn’t mind being called a monkey.
