Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Robin Thicke, CHVRCHES, and Washed Out are all on deck for this year’s Virgin Mobile FreeFest. The single-day event takes place September 21 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.
Rounding out the rest of the lineup: The Avett Brothers, Icona Pop, Sky Ferreira, Pretty Lights, Kaskade, City and Colour, Madeon, Ghost Beach, Black Joe Lewis, Gareth Emery, Little Green Cars, Manufactured Superstars, the Knocks, TJR, and Congorock.
Tickets are free and will be available to the public beginning Friday, August 9 at noon EST via Ticketfly. Virgin Mobile customers will have access to passes a day earlier, on Thursday, August 8. Pre-sale offers are also open to prior Virgin Mobile Festival ticket buyers, as well as Virgin Mobile Facebook friends and Twitter followers.
A limited number of FreeFest “Freemium” packages will also be up for grabs, which guarantee admission to the showcase, a FreeFest t-shirt, and a souvernir cup that comes with free fountain drinks throughout the event. Keeping in line with FreeFest’s charitable mission to end youth homelessness, a $10 donation will be made to Virgin Mobile USA’s youth homelessness initiative from the cost of each “Freemium” package purchased.
Money raised from FreeFest’s 2011 and 2012 installments helped establish The Sasha Bruce Re* Generation House, a transitional living facility for homeless youth in Washington, D.C. The Re* Generation House features heavily in the festival’s official lineup announcement video, which can be seen above.
Last year’s FreeFest drew 50,000 attendees (via Billboard) and featured performances by Jack White, Nas, Skrillex, M83, the Dismemberment Plan, and Santigold.
