1.Strings Attached

For SPIN’s July issue cover shoot with Paramore at New Jersey's Bamboozle, photo director Michelle Egiziano wanted to show the band’s playfulness and their close relationship with their fans. Solution: Have them fire off silly string while shrieking festivalgoers sprayed water bottles.

But don't get the wrong idea -- the Tennessee quintet isn't only about having fun: "They may be young, but they’re very serious about what they do," says Egiziano.

3.Van, Wilder

3/16

While roaming the Bamboozle backstage parking lot for cool backdrops to shoot in front of, SPIN's crew stumbled upon this van, belonging to Tempe-based band the Maine. No, we don't know who "Morgan" is, but singer John O'Callaghan seems a fair guess for the "John" she loves—the graffiti is courtesy of the Maine’s fans.

4.Get Your Feet Off the Couch!

4/16

Hayley Williams shows two different sides: fashion cool and spunky frontwoman.

5.Some Muss, No Fuss

5/16

While photographer Ben Watts handled SPIN's cover, Rebecca Smeyne and Steven Brahms snapped behind-the-scenes shots; the hope was to contrast the chaos of Bamboozle with intimate, quieter moments of the band. This is Hayley with her hairstylist, Brian.

6.The Bros In the Band

6/16

Guitarist Josh Farro (left), 22, is the band’s resident newlywed and the only one not on Twitter. His hotel name is Johnny Freedom.

Kid brother Zac, 20, is a good-natured smart-ass and a great drummer. He loves pro wrestling and has a knowledge of burritos that borders on encyclopedic. His hotel name is Bob America.

7.Eat, Pray, Love

7/16

"Hayley hadn't had any food all day," says Egiziano, "so she came into the photo trailer on a break and went for the pasta salad, straight out of the bowl."

8.The Boys In the Band

8/16

Bassist Jeremy Davis (left) is the group’s wizened elder at 25. He loves fried chicken, has seen every Saw, and uses the word “choad” in casual conversation. His hotel name is Jethro Duke.

Davis’ opposite in the band is guitarist Taylor York, 20. The newest member, he likes Wes Anderson movies, Icelandic indie rock, and Audrey Hepburn. His hotel name is Taylor Youngblood.

9.High Five

9/16

"Of all the band members, Hayley and Jeremy were definitely the tightest," says SPIN's writer Josh Eells, who tagged along with the band. "One night they spent at least an hour debating the plot of the movie The River Wild – but always with a smile. They almost seemed more like brothers than the actual brothers."

10.Ow, Ow, Ow!

10/16

"Hayley's pre-show routine is intense," says Eells. "She needs to be alone for an hour or two alone beforehand, to rest and get focused and warm up her voice. She also isn't allowed to eat cheese, which really bums her out."

11.Showtime

11/16

"I watched Bamboozle from the stage, and the crowd looked immense," says Ells. "PoorTaylor had a lot of technical problems, so he was pretty disappointed. But afterward the rest of the band made a point of hugging him and telling him what a good job he did. It was sweet."

12.Misery Business

12/16

"I don't know if it was nerves, or the photo shoot or the flooding back home in Nashville, but everyone seemed a little on-edge at Bamboozle," says Eells. "When the show rolled around, though, they channeled all that nervous energy into their performance. Zac and Jeremy, especially—those two were on fire."

13.MmmBop!

13/16

Not only did the band get to crash the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon set, Hayley got to meet one of her childhood idols, Taylor Hanson. "I started playing drums because of Zac Hanson," she says.

14.Get On the Bus

14/16

"Paramore are sort of a tough band to get a handle on," says Eells. "But I think they all realize how fortunate they are, and they're smart enough and care about each other enough to stick together and ride this wave for a long time."

15.Candid Cameras

15/16

As if having three professional photographers documenting their every twitch wasn't enough, we gave Paramore cameras so they could take pictures amongst themselves. Here's Hayley, caught in a quiet moment.

16.Put 'Em Up

16/16

The choice for the SPIN cover came down to these two photographs. "I was excited that we went with an empowered, tough image [left]," says Egiziano. "It's a better representation of Hayley's personality and what she means to her band and to her fans rather than just pure eye candy. Which would have been easy enough to do."
