Performing under the moniker Maps, suburban London-based James Chapman layers strings with distant, dreamy electronic pulses on his Start Something EP, a compilation of the tunes he made in his bedroom, self-released, and sold out of. On the delicately mysterious “Lost My Soul,” Chapman reflects on wanting to be with someone he knows is bad for him. Though the singer purrs “I found a love and lost my soul,” the track boasts swooping melodies that are more driving than depressing. “I wanted to make the track as uplifting as possible,” Chapman told SPIN.com. “It’s probably one of the simplest songs I’ve written, but I think that’s a good thing.”
