Papercuts, ‘Fading Parade’ (Sub Pop)

Beach House? More like Beach Mansion. Comparisons to the Baltimore duo are inevitable, but with his fourth album, San Francisco singer-guitarist Jason Quever expands on the woozy pop that made his labelmates’ Teen Dream a staple of 2010 best-album lists. Layering a subtle sprawl of strings, Autoharp, keyboards (mellotron, Moog, church organs), and guitars that shimmer and froth like the Pacific Ocean, Fading Parade illuminates moment-in-time snapshots of love and mortality — blurry, fragile, nostalgic.
