Watch: Sublime Reunite with New Singer
News
For months rumors have circulated that Sublime -- the SoCal ska-punk band who found fame after the 1996 death of frontman Bradley Nowell -- would reunite with a new singer. Saturday night at a Nevada Mexican restaurant those rumors became fact when former drummer Bud Gaugh and bassist Eric Wilson were joined by a singer named Rome for a brief set of Sublime classics, including "Wrong" and "What I Got." The trio, who followed Del Mar (Gaugh's other band), also played a new original song.
Low-quality YouTube footage and Del Mar’s MySpace page confirm what occurred at Cantina Los Tres Hombres: "So, Del Mar played the gig at Cantina last night ... it was packed and amazing. What really fucking killed it was SUBLIME reuniting and playing with new singer, Rome. Sublime doesn't have any firm tour plans or anything YET, but we'll keep you posted on their progress."
But unlike the boys onstage, many fans aren't exactly excited about the "reunion." On a message board at PunkDisasters.com one fan wrote, "Sorry, but it's not Sublime without Brad Nowell." Another quipped, "That's like saying Nirvana reunited last night."

Yeah so they sound like Sublime, but taking the name is ridiculous. They are a new band, they need to come up with a new name. Brad had complete rights to the name Sublime, and for anyone else to use that name is an obvious infringement on copyright laws. I hope they tour and make new songs and all, but it's not Sublime without Bradley.

i wont believe that **** until they let loose another beast of an album like the self titled album for example. the industry is punks.thats erelevent ,just sayin, but its seeming more like a tribute band with two original members, but **** if acdc can pull it off and keep **** legit and original, then why cant sublime? i for one am reserving judgement until they churn out some new songs. later haters!

If ROME can step up and exceed expectations by creating fresh new songs as well as play the old classic Sublime songs then let him prosper. His voice is as close to Nowell's as I've heard and if it keeps the Sublime spirit alive then go for it. No one can bring Bradley back, and his time was too short, so this is the closest thing. I'm excited for the Sublime band, who, as the previous comment does not agree with, are a major part of the creation of the original Sublime songs. Take Gaugh and Wilson out of the song writing process and you are left with the skeleton of a song, acoustic gold in its own right, but nothing compared with the backing from the band.
I just hope the new front man doesn't go down the same path of decadence...I'm sure he is smarter than that.
Long live Nowell, long live Sublime, long live a musical era that has defined the lives of so many people growing up all over the world. Let ROME be a part of it.
If my band ever gets the chance to support Sublime when they get back on the road, I would be honoured to play alongside these men.

No one can match the talent of Brad. He's not replaceable. You can call the band what you want, but it's not the band you've known for so long. There are a lot of sublime tribute bands that sound almost exactly like the original....none of them have created anything new that rivals the old stuff...as if Brad were still creating. Rome is Rome....he creates Rome, not Brad. I know someone who sounds even better and closer to Brad than Rome, but he doesn't have anything new to offer.
