Word leaked out in April that Spike Jonze was directing a short film for Arcade Fire based on a story-line about "friends growing apart." Last night, that short film premiered online - and it's a frightening dystopian vision set to the track "The Suburbs." Watch it below.

"The Suburbs" looks innocent enough at first: a band of kids hang in their peaceful Texas suburb, firing off b.b. guns and cruising on their bikes. But as night falls, things take a dark turn as a rifle-wielding army overtakes the town under martial law. The whole friends-growing-apart element comes into play near the end, with a graphic, blood-soaked beatdown inside a fast food joint.
