Justin Vernon’s Volcano Choir Return With ‘Repave,’ First North American Tour

Since releasing 2011’s gorgeous Bon Iver, Justin Vernon has busied himself with a few side-projects. Earlier this year, the Wisconsin-bred singer-songwriter released Grownass Man — the debut full-length from his Shouting Matches band — and lent his musky pipes to a few tunes on New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light, the latest solo LP from Bon Iver saxman Colin Stetson. Now Vernon is dusting off Volcano Choir, his long-dormant collaborative project with post-rock unit Collections of Colonies of Bees.

On September 3, Jagjaguwar will release Volcano Choir’s sophomore album, Repave, in the U.S. (the record is out internationally on September 2). The follow-up to 2009’s Unmap boasts eight tracks, one of which is teased in the dramatic trailer below.

Volcano Choir have also announced their first proper North American tour. The woodsy collective will embark on a 10-date journey that begins in Chicago on September 6 and ends in Minneapolis on September 18. Between those gigs, they’ll play shows in Indianapolis, Toronto, Burlington, Boston, Washington, D.C., New York, Madison, and Milwaukee.

Look above to see the cover art for Repave — it’s a photo by Corey Arnold called “The North Sea” — and go below for the album’s track listing and trailer, plus tour dates.
