The Roots Battled Boyz II Men in High School Talent Shows

...and lost because of glitter

Olivia Forman

Picture, if you will, the Roots and Boyz II Men as teenagers in the late '80s, together at the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts. Now imagine the two crews going head-to-head in the school's quite renowned talent show which, yes, was dubbed "Sentimental Journey." As Questlove and Black Thought explain to Huffington Post in the clip above, this actually happened, and there was glitter involved. The Tonight Show MC says it was "really like Fame." And Questo also recalls the Boyz meeting in the bathroom to harmonize (for the acoustics) over Guy and New Edition songs.
