About 500 fans and music stars gathered in the small London club Digwall's last night to see the Strokes first public performance in four years -- and they weren't disappointed [via NME].

The New Yorkers, who played under the fake moniker Venison, powered through a 18-song set in 70 minutes, rocking hits including "The Modern Age," "Is This It?" and "Take It or Leave It." But even though they have a new album due this September, the band didn't perform any new material.

Among the crowd in the tiny venue (some of who paid up to 500 British pounds a ticket) was Coldplay's Chris Martin.

Strokes frontman Julian Casablances wore his characteristic sunglasses and a studded leather jacket; he closed out the show by saying the comeback felt "wonderful" and "crazy."

The Strokes officially kick-off their summer performances this weekend at the Isle of Wight Festival.

And as for Venison? Looks like they wanted to "end their career on a high note."
