The Drums Make a Skull-Rattling Return on 'Magic Mountain'

Three years later, the band departs from sunny shores to scale manic mountain

Jacob and Jonny back to beat it up

Three years after releasing the sunny Portamento, the Drums return with "Magic Mountain." The new single is still guided by that infectious head-bobbery, but the Brooklyn indie-popper's blithe bounce takes on a fervent frenzy complete with dissonant vocal hollers and fuzzy guitar flexing. Founding members Jonny Pierce and Jacob Graham became friends as children, and Pierce told Noisey this single is a return to their original dynamic:

"Not since the Summertime EP has it been just Jacob and I left up to our own devices. Now that we're back to just the two founding members, we figured we could do whatever we wanted and run with it. Together, we had just one goal: let go of any preconceived ideas that anyone has about the Drums and make songs to be as grand and majestic as we want them to be. 'Magic Mountain' is a sparkling reflection of our last three years. It's about shedding off what binds you and protecting what's good, finding a safe place away from everyone and everything that wants to destroy you."

We're not sure what wants to destroy the Drums, but perhaps it'll be nipping at their heels on that U.S. tour that kicks off in September. The band is offering a pre-sale special, offering one GA ticket to any show with a 7-inch of their new single and a signed poster.
