Phosphorescent Plays Urban Cowboy in ‘Ride On/Right On’ Video

phosphorescent, ride on/right on, video

Brooklyn-based folkie Phosphorescent tips his hat to his Southern roots in the just-released video for “Ride On/Right On,” the latest single off this year’s Muchacho. Tonally, the three-minute clip is worlds away from the video for “Song for Zula,” which featured a captive woman fighting to break free from bondage. Instead, this dimly lit short opens squarely on songwriter Matthew Houck, who’s decked out in his best cowboy duds. The Alabama-born auteur saunters around a Brooklyn apartment, pleading to the camera, “Take your greedy hands / Honey, lay ’em on me.” Houck eventually walks out onto a balcony to admire a nearby fireworks show and take in the Manhattan skyline just across the river.
