Before MGMT unleashed live renditions of new songs "Mystery Disease" and "Your Life Is a Lie," the psych-glam two-piece shared the first taste off their upcoming third album, the appropriately spaced-out "Alien Days," as a Record Store Day cassingle. Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser have now announced plans to debut "Something to Do With Prince" on a three-way split-single with Spacemen 3 and Spectrum (via Exclaim!).

VanWyngarden and Goldwasser's "Something to Do With Prince" will serve as the 7-inch's B-side to Spectrum's "Bo's Web," an outtake from 1992's Soul Kiss (Glide Divine) sessions. The A-side will also include an instrumental demo version of Spacemen 3's 1991 track "Why Couldn't I See?"

Peter "Sonic Boom" Kember is the link between all three projects: He records music as Spectrum, was a founding member of Spacemen 3 (along with Spiritualized's Jason Pierce), and he handled production duties on MGMT's 2010 album, Congratulations

The forthcoming 7-inch (out May 13 in the U.K. and Europe via the Great Pop Supplement) will be pressed on green vinyl and packaged in an octagonal sleeve designed by Kember. Only 1,000 copies will be available, and pre-orders can now be placed through Rough Trade.

No official confirmation on whether "Something to Do With Prince" will appear on MGMT's third LP or if the song actually does have something to do with Prince, but the Rough Trade pre-order page describes the tune as a "backwards-sounding synth track." Time to pretend.
