Mastodon Roar Back With Monster Metal Anthem

Atlanta metal kings Mastodon will return September 27 with their highly anticipated fifth album The Hunter – and the group have offered up the first track from the record, titled “Black Tongue.” Check it out – along with haunting visuals provided by artist A.J. Fosik – here.

Brent Hinds told SPIN in May that the new LP would be a “jump-on-your-bed, get naked, and go streaking kind of record” – and that definitely holds true for “Black Tongue.” It’s three-and-a-half unrelenting minutes of buzzsaw riffs, double-helix guitar soloing, and pummeling drums. “I haven’t had this feeling about a Mastodon record since [2004’s] Leviathan,” Hinds added. “It’s just fucking awesome.”

Fans can pre-order a “Limited Edition Package” from the band’s official site. It includes an instant download of album track “Black Tongue,” a CD/DVD housed in a digi-pack with an alternative cover, a 20″x30″ poster of the standard album cover, a second download of first single “Curl of the Burl” when it becomes available, and something the band is calling an “augmented reality experience” by Total Immersion, which will contain exclusive content only available to this package. Whew!
