Lil Wayne is free at last!

Thursday morning the rapper was released from New York City’s Rikers Island jail, after serving eight months of his year-long sentence for gun charges stemming from a 2007 arrest, reports MTV.

After striking a plea deal in the case, in which police found guns and drugs aboard his tour bus after a show at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre, Wayne turned himself over to New York authorities last March and began his sentence.

A Wayne spokesperson tells SPIN that the New Orleans-bred rapper is headed to Miami to see his children and get back into the studio, though he’ll soon be traveling to Arizona to clear up another drug and gun case stemming from a 2008 arrest in Yuma. He’ll also attend a “I-just-got-out-prison” party on Sunday night, thrown by his mentor and Cash Money label head Birdman.

Rumor has it that Wayne will also appear at his protege Drake’s November 6 gig in Las Vegas. “I would just advise you to book a ticket out there. If you can get tickets… I would strongly advise it,” Drake told MTV News.

Fans have been anxiously awaiting Wayne’s release and his first post-jail Tweet. Wayne is a trending topic on Twitter.
