INTERVIEWSLCD Soundsystem Get Lost in Space

by SPIN Staff

It's one small step for LCD Soundsystem, but a giant leap for audiencekind. James Murphy, the unassuming mastermind behind one of 2005's hottest albums (LCD Soundsystem's eponymous debut), returns for more trippy on-beat grooves with offbeat lyrics on the forthcoming Sound of Silver.

The video for "North American Scum" finds Murphy and mates engaging in some lunar lunacy: claiming the moon for DFA with a planted flag, shredding guitar in zero gravity, and engaging in some karate-style choreography. And could the silver spacesuits be another homage to the previously name-checked Daft Punk? We're thinking in those foil get-ups, they could easily pass for one-fifth of the dancers from the classic "Around the World" video. Sound of Silver will gleam from shelves March 20 on DFA/Capitol Records.
