Arguably, a large part of Kendrick Lamar's undeniable charm is the fact that he isn't a shoo-in for presiding judge over, say, a wet T-shirt contest or a twerking competition. On his excellent good kid, m.A.A.d. city, he usually tempers any sex talk with deep thought, which makes the bawdy chorus of "Backseat Freestyle" all the more fun: "I wish my dick was big as the Eiffel Tower, so I could fuck the world for 72 hours." It's a metaphor, of course, but the stream-of-consciousness hook is a pretty upfront example of K-Dot feeling his own swag: "Goddamn I got bitches."
It's a playful, kinda guilty pleasure on album, but a bit of an odd fit for a music video, which might explain why three directors (Jerome D, Dave Free, and Lamar himself) are credited with creating the clip for "Backseat." Some of the footage is shot in Paris in front of the landmark our hero would like his member to resemble, of course, and the rest is shot in Compton with the requisite amount of screen time given to barbering, booty bouncing, pot-smoke, and in-pew pondering. While the clip isn't perfect, Kendrick is as charismatic as always, even if he does seem a bit squeamish during the Sherene's spotlit twerk session.
