Hear Justin Timberlake Drop Cheesy Pickup Lines on ‘Mirrors’

justin timberlake, mirrors

“You’re shining something like a mirror / And I can’t help but notice you reflecting this heart of mine.”

Justin Timberlake has had going on seven years to follow up his zeitgeist-seizing 2006 album FutureSex/LoveSounds. He was so omnipresent at the Grammy Awards that they played his songs in seemingly every commercial.

And how does the former ‘N Sync singer choose to crown his return to pop prominence but with a pickup line even MxPx wouldn’t touch? Backed with music that’s a cross between luxe Bruno Mars ’80s-grenade balladry and those human beatbox hiccups that, in all honesty, were starting to be played out even when Timberlake tapped Timbaland to use them, brilliantly, on FutureSex“It’s like you’re my mirror / My mirror staring back at me.” Yes, it is. But usually Timberlake is a whole lot better looking.

Okay, so there’s also a left-field, evidently Miguel-adoring outro that almost saves the thing and will surely win over a few critics (not necessarily the demographic Timberlake needs). But given the eye-examining cover art for JT’s The 20/20 Experience, due out on March 29, maybe there’s still an optometry pickup line in here somewhere? Like, “It’s like you’re my mirror / But only because I need glasses/ Actually we don’t look anything like each other”? Shine bright like a diamond-mirror.
