Our subscription arrived by mail today and it immediately captured my attention. Very cool cover. I am so excited to see Prince on the cover!!! As well your tribute album. Smart. He's timeless. I love him. My initial read was the editorial page and it made me smile because I could completely relate. I was 18! when the album and movie came out and like the editor have fond memories. I recall the excitement and anticipation of going to see the movie with friends. It was so sexy - almost scandelous at the time - or maybe in my mind... We were all so mesmorized by the music....his auora. I don't recall the movie being cricially aclaimed or anything...;) but just having him on screen was fabulous. I played the songs Purple Rain and When Doves Cry so many times thereafter the grooves in the record album melted!! What a magical time. Thank you Prince!! Thank you Spin for the generous offer of the upcoming free tribute album. -V

I go play SXSW in Austin, Texas with my employer Murali Coryell and wind up getting a free subscription to SPIN, met Quincy Jones, played some great shows, met some beautiful women, ate some amazing food and now here I am waiting for Prince's 25th anniversary of Purple Rain to be up for download. I may have been born in 1985, but there wasnt a second of growing up without being incredibly musically influenced by Michael Jackson and Prince himself because they were both always playing in my house somewhere. Anyways, thanks alot SPIN for the free shit/subscription and the great issue. FYI, in a battle between Michael Jackson and Prince for bein the shit, Prince, you've definitely won

Wow! Thank you so much! The album and movie may have come out in 1984(?) but my girlfriends and I rediscovered them in the early '90's. I cannot tell you how many weekends we spent watching Purple Rain. So many good memories....

Oh, and I LOVE the cover of the new issue of Spin. Awesome to see Prince on a cover and appreciated for the musical genius that he truly is. Thanks again guys!!

This issue was amazing. Purple Rain and it's soundtrack has remained in my all time favorites list for years. SPIN recounts some great stories, especially food fights with The Time. LOL! Think about how different PURPLE RAIN would have been with a different cast of supporting players...Vanity? Gina Gershon? WOW! This is a must have issue for all fans of his purple badness. O-|->

Great article!!! I was in middle school when Purple Rain was released and I just remember that being a magical time for me. There was great, behind-the-scenes information included in the article. As well as eye-opening revelations (Wendy and Lisa ...... wow!). The one question I wished Spin would have asked Albert Magnoli, the director, is what ever happened to the deleted scenes. They're not included on any of the current DVD's, including the "Special 20th Anniversary Edition". And these cut scenes do in fact exist. Just view the original trailer or the 'When Doves Cry' video for evidence. But overall, wonderful article..... Kudos!!!
