Catch the Buzz: One for the Team

Minneapolis-based indie-pop quintet prepare to break out with excellent sophomore set, Build it Up. Download the chattering, sunny pop glee of "A Better Job."

By: William Goodman // July 7, 2008

Who? Minneapolis’ One for the Team purvey the sort of buzzing, playful, unisex indie-pop purported by bands bold older (say, Velocity Girl) and new (Mates of State). But with five members — led by singer-songwriter/Twin Cities man-about-town/Afternoon Records founder Ian Anderson — the band’s sound arrives more expansive and guitar-based, but equally sunny, cutesy, and keys-driven. Case in point: “A Better Job” (DOWNLOAD MP3). “Let’s move to Brooklyn together, ” sing Anderson and synth player Grace Fiddler adorably, in unison. “We’ll both get internships at Matador Records.” Ahhh….

Their latest: Sophomore set Build it Up is available now as a download via iTunes, and will arrive on CD Aug. 19 via Militia Group.
