Best Coast ditched the alt-country sweep of last year‘s The Only Place LP to revisit their lo-fi roots on “Fear of My Identity,” the Los Angeles duo’s upcoming Record Store Day exclusive. Now SPIN cover girl Bethany Cosentino and bandmate Bobb Bruno split the difference between strumming and swooning on a fresh cover of Roy Orbison’s “Crying,” which can be heard below. Listen close for cat lady Cosentino’s beloved feline, Snacks, who provides a backing meow at the 2:20 mark. (And see more photos of Best Coast, Snacks, and Wavves in their cover shoot gallery.)

As SPIN previously reported, Best Coast have an upcoming EP in the works, but details on the new release are scarce. The Fear of My Identity seven-inch, featuring Cosentino’s dad Ricky on drums, will be available on April 20 at Record Store Day-participating shops.
