Stephen Malkmus, Carrie Brownstein, Carl Newman and Others Release New Anti-Trump Protest Album

It’s a big day for political music, with a new ACLU benefit compilation featuring Mount Eerie and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart out, along with a new star-studded “protest record” spearheaded by Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss of Quasi. The album was, according to a press release, “created in direct response to the current political situation in the U.S.A” and “released on inauguration day in opposition to the incoming administration.” It features, most notably, Carrie Brownstein, Stephen Malkmus, Carl Newman, Peter Buck, Boss Hog (Jon Spencer and Cristina Martinez), Quasi, and more.

The album, entitled Battle Hymns, is pay-what-you-want, with a recommended donation of $20.00. All proceeds for the album are being divided between the ACLU, Planned Parenthood and climate-change activist group 350.org.
