Supermoon Conjure Light and Dark With ‘Witching Hour’

Supermoon, a Vancouver-based four piece incorporating members from local bands Movieland and Pups, strike the endlessly delicate balance between ebullient surf-pop and foreboding punk. 2015’s Comet Lovejoy EP was the band’s first release, its six tracks establishing their rhythm-driven, airy brand of rock. In keeping with the group’s cosmic themes, they now return with “Witching Hour,” the latest single off of the upcoming double 7-inch Playland, due May 20 via Mint Records. The dark subject matter of the track becomes obscured by poppy guitars and unobtrusive percussion, with light, melodic vocals trilling: “His face went dark in the sun / He said the Witching Hour would come.”
