Rey Pila Delivers Hooky Synth Rock With ‘What A Nice Surprise’

Mexican synth-rock group Rey Pila has returned with the single ‘What A Nice Surprise’ from upcoming sophomore album The Future Sugar. ‘What A Nice Surprise’ is a glittering build-up of reverberating synths and ’80s-inspired guitar licks. Singer Diego Solórzano entices with the beginning of the track, reaching into the deepest stretches of his lower range, transitioning into a chilling falsetto during the chorus as he cries, “Somebody tell me what to do / I put my trust in you.” So basically, the title is pretty self-explanatory.

Listen below, and look out for The Future Sugar, coming courtesy of Cult Records (founded by the Strokes’ Julian Casablancas) on May 5.
