Listen to a 25-Year-Old Nirvana Concert Bootleg Nobody’s Ever Heard Before

Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love met for the first time at the January 12, 1990 concert

A quarter-century ago today, Nirvana played a small but momentous show at Portland’s Satyricon. The concert at the popular nightclub is notable because the Melvins’ Dale Crover was playing drums, and because it’s when Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love met for the very first time. And now, for the first time since that fateful night, you can listen to the grunge legends’ show. A YouTube user uploaded a video today that’s allegedly a bootleg of the whole show.

“I was there. I recorded their set. And I put it away in a box of tapes,” user WY97212 wrote in the video’s description. “Today marks the 25th anniversary and it seems like the right time to let people hear this. Enjoy and Play Loud. Recording is raw in accordance with the equipment and tape used at the time.”

While the veracity of the recording isn’t 100 percent confirmed, the dates line up. Nirvana was playing a show on January 12, 1990, and Willamette Week found a poster for the event that lists both Nirvana and Crover’s band the Melvins as acts. So enjoy this Bleach-filled piece of history.
