Connect Sessions Ep. 1 — Window Studies

Ron Amstutz and Ian Williams on the visual aspect of their collaboration

How does one make a film out of photographs of painted light? How do you choreograph a dance to it? And then, how do you write a score for movements of both body and images? All are questions brought forth by the Microsoft Connect Sessions-powered collaboration between the photo/video artist Ron Amstutz and musician Ian Williams (of Battles). Amstutz’s years-in-development idea of documenting performance, and layering it with a soundscape of found-sounds may seem like a difficult construct. But as Williams says, “People look at this thing and go ‘wow.’ They don’t know anything about structuralist film. To them, it’s just really neat.” Fully agreed!
