Wild Beasts’ ‘Sweet Spot’ Explores the Seedy Side of Synth-Pop

wild beasts, sweet spot, present tense

Wild Beasts have uncovered a second song from their upcoming fourth album, Present Tense. “Sweet Spot” follows “Wanderlust,” a darkly bubbling lead single built around a no-nonsense mission statement: “Don’t confuse me with someone who gives a fuck.” On their newest track, though, the English foursome give enough of a fuck to define, well, their “Sweet Spot.” If Wild Beasts are to be trusted, it’s somewhere “between bone-dry and the dripping wet,” and can also be found “between two hands held in prayer.” (Never mind that “there is a godless state where the real and the dream may consummate.”) But judging from the airy vocals, lush synths, and color-changing visual they’ve shared, Wild Beasts’ sweet spot is somewhere between the sensual and the uncomfortable.

Stream “Sweet Spot” via the video above, and purchase it by plunking down $1.29 at iTunes. Pre-orders of Present Tense, which arrives on February 25, are also available on iTunes, as well as through Domino Records.
