Jay-Z Producer Hit-Boy Does His Own Amanda Bynes Edition of ‘Somewhereinamerica’
Rockie Fresh joins on the twerk-free remix (sorry, Miley)
Earlier this week Hit-Boy dropped “New Chains,” a reworking of Kanye West’s “New Slaves” that found the SoCal producer showing of his very able skills as a rapper. The 26-year-old’s biggest credits to date have been in service of Ye’s G.O.O.D. Music collective, but the man wrapped his contract before Yeezus came together, so his touch was absent from that impressive platter. Hit-Boy’s name pops up, however, on Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail — specifically on one of the three (give or take) worthwhile songs, “Somewhereinamerica.”
Here, he repeats his earlier trick, recording fresh verses to the original track and this time bringing along a friend: Chicago Maybach Music Group MC Rockie Fresh. Though Hit once again impresses with his precision-guided bars, Rockie steals the show by flipping Jigga’s awesome Miley Cyrus reference to pick on another loony starlet caught amidst a crisis of identity: “But if you real I got a blunt on me, and I’m a pass it if you open / ‘Cause somewhere in America, Amanda Bynes is still smokin’.” Burn (doubly).
