Former Kanye West collaborator Hit-Boy has reworked Yeezus standout “New Slaves,” further damaging the heavy track with glitchy elements and rewriting all of the words. The California MC-producer has named his version “New Chains” — the subject matter doesn’t differ much from West’s original, but it’s interesting to hear the complex diatribe for/against consumerism delivered from a different angle. The new “New” song’s strength also testifies to the impactful musical production and powerful verbal cadence of West’s song.
As Consequence of Sound points out, the “Niggas in Paris” producer parted ways with Yeezy’s G.O.O.D. Music label and collective earlier this year in order to focus on an imprint of his own. The “New Chains” video was directed by Damian Marcan and had nothing to do with Small Black.
