On Friday, July 26, Modest Mouse will play following Matt Costa, a folk-pop fella who was in fact raised in Huntington Beach. Collectively, the shows are being billed as "the largest free concert of the summer.""Being a bunch of grungy kids growing up surfing and skating all over Southern California, we feel incredibly honored to be playing the U.S. Open this year," said FMLYBND via statement. "It's just the beginning for and we are stoked to be ... It's only up from here." Totally dude. Just remember, what goes up must come down. It's the way of the wave, brahs. The Vans U.S. Open of Surfing runs from July 20 through July 28 and will be webcast at the event's website and via an app to come. The entire thing is free and open to the public.Though its has evolved over the years, the Open has been taking place in one form or another since 1959, when it was known as the West Coast Surfing Champions.
