Marques Toliver is a stunning mix of Dirty Projectors-style indie rock, contemporary minimalist composition (with lots of a swirling strings), and classic R&B somewhere between 1976 and 1996. A classically trained violinist, Toliver has been making waves in NYC (and London and Antwerp and NPR) for a few years, and Bella Union is finally releasing his full-length debut, Land of CanAan, on May 14. You can hear the whole thing below — complete with Marvin Gaye lyric snatches and horn blurts — and catch him at the TV on the Radio-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties this upcoming weekend.
