Moz: $5M, It Was Really Nothing

Even if you have $5 million to spare, Morrissey and the Smiths refuse to take the stage together.

Duringa public interview at SXSW on Thursday (March 16), Morrissey told theroom full of reporters that the Smiths turned down an offer of $5million to reunite for this year’s Coachella festival in April,according to Billboard.com.

“Money doesn’t come into it,”Morrissey said. “It was a fantastic journey. And then it ended. Ididn’t feel we should have ended. I wanted to continue. [GuitaristJohnny Marr] wanted to end it. And that was that.”

Morrisseyfurther shocked the crowd by announcing he’s actually noticed somesunny spots in his otherwise melancholy world. The singer said therewill be some bright spots on his new album, Ringleader of the Tormentors, which will be released on April 4.

“I’m just seeing lots of joyful things in life, which I didn’t in the past,” he said. “Which maybe you noticed.

Morrisseywill bring some of that potentially brighter new material on the roadwhen he kicks off a European tour (to be followed by a North Americantrek) to support the album.
