That was quick: just one week after unveiling Distortion, their first new record since 2004’s i, and subsequently promising “a small number of U.S. tour dates,” New York City’s Magnetic Fieldshave made good, now detailing a February and March outing consisting oftwo night stands in five assorted cities across the country, plus sixshows over three nights in Chicago. Kicking off with a pair of gigs inSomerville, MA, Magnetic Fields will then hit New York, San Francisco,Los Angeles, and Seattle for two nights each, before capping the jauntwith run in the Windy City. According to frontman Stephin Merritt‘s web site, a limited supply of pre-order ticket are available beginning today (Nov. 5).

Mike Doughty Details ‘Delicious’ New LP
Finally, after possibly shunning fans’ numerous album-specific queries on his current and insightful solo outing, former Soul Coughing principal Mike Doughty has detailed Golden Delicious, his follow up to 2005’s Haughty Melodic,due Feb. 19 via ATO. The album, Doughty’s fifth LP to date, wasrecorded alongside Grammy Award-winning producer Dan Wilson andfeatures multi-instrumentalist Andrew Livingston, drummer Pete McNeal(Cake, Jem, Gary Jules), keyboardist John Kirby (Black Eyed Peas), andbassist John Munson (Semisonic, Trip Shakespeare). Furthermore, Golden Delicious,despite the sweet and tasty title, deals with political topics,including the Iraq War. The album’s first track, “Fort Hood,” was”named for the U.S. army base that has suffered the greatest number ofcasualties in the Iraq War,” reveals a statement.

Del the Funky Homosapien Joins Def Jux at ‘The 11th Hour’
Underground hip-hop legend Del the Funky Homosapien, a.k.a. Hieroglyphics‘ founding member and the mouthpiece behind Gorillaz’s hit track “Clint Eastwood,” will join the ranks of El-P‘s ever expanding Definitive Jux army to release The 11th Hour, out Feb. 26. The MC’s last LP, Both Sides of the Brain, was released in 2000 on the Heiro Imperium imprint.
“El-Pand I have known each other for a long time and I respect what hedoes,” Del said in a statement. “I see Def Jux out there doing theirthing, I think we can help each other build new audiences. I’m lookingforward to working with El-P and Def Jux on future projects as well.”El-P added, “Del is and always has been one of my favorite artists andpeople.
