When they took the stage at Schuba’s, the members of Pit Er Pat occasionally twiddled the knobs on their devices, injecting spaced-out sound effects into their music. Most of the time, though, the Chicago trio didn’t add outer-worldly electronics, opting instead to rely on Fay Davis-Jeffers’ electric organ chords, Butchy Fuego’s rolling drums, and Rob Doran’s thumping bass lines. And the songs fell into hypnotic grooves, complemented by Davis-Jeffers vocals, puffed out calmly like a cloud of smoke. STORY AND PHOTOS BY ROBERT LOERZEL
