Two weeks after Q-Tip announced We Got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service, the final album by A Tribe Called Quest is available for streaming. The two-disc album was recorded before Phife Dawg’s death from complications related to diabetes in March, and features the original Tribe lineup plus guest appearances from Kanye West, Andre 3000, Anderson .Paak, and Busta Rhymes. It sounds great on first listen, a multicolored update on Tribe’s classic NYC sound, with energized rapping from everyone involved.
The title of the album’s final track, “The Donald,” had some fans wondering whether A Tribe Called Quest had recorded a song about our new president. Turns out it’s actually a tribute to “Don Juice,” a lesser-known nickname for the late Phife Dawg. Listen to We Got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service via Spotify below.
