England’s foremost ’80s nostalgists, the 1975, have a bittersweet new video for “A Change of Heart,” a single from their recent album I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet unaware of it. The cinematic clip features frontman Matthew Healy as a powder-faced clown who falls hard for a lady clown. They’re at a carnival, and the amusements — bumper cars, a target game, popcorn — illustrate their relationship as it strengthens and then falters.
If you’re familiar with commedia dell’arte, or classical Italian comedy, you’ll notice that Healy’s mime-like clown resembles a Pierrot character. Watch the tragicomic “A Change of Heart” below.
