Ray Liotta, Goodfellas Actor, Dies at 67

He died in his sleep while in the Dominican Republic

Ray Liotta, the actor best known for playing Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese’s 1990 film Goodfellas, has died at the age of 67. According to Deadline, which first reported the news, Liotta died in his sleep while in the Dominican Republic where he was shooting a film titled Dangerous Waters.

Born on December 18, 1954 in Newark, New Jersey, Liotta got his start playing Joey Perrini on the soap opera Another World. He made his film debut in 1983 in The Lonely Lady and received a Golden Globe nomination in 1986 for his role in Something Wild.

Liotta’s breakthrough came in 1989 when he portrayed “Shoeless” Joe Jackson in Field of Dreams. After that, he played Hill in a career-making role in Goodfellas. He also featured in Unlawful Entry, Cop LandBlowThe Bee Movie and The Place Beyond the Pines.

In 2005, Liotta won a Primetime Emmy Award for playing Charlie Metcalf on ER.

In recent years, Liotta was experiencing a career resurgence. He appeared in The Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark, for which he and the cast won an Indie Spirit Award. He’s also appeared in the Apple TV+ series Black Bird and had a recurring role on Prime Video’s Hanna.

Liotta is survived by his fiancé Jacy Nittolo and daughter Karsen.
