The Julie Ruin Surf a New Wave on ‘I’m Done’

The Julie Ruin

Only Kathleen Hanna can bend squelchy, wet-fart synths into a powerful rock anthem. The Julie Ruin releases their second album Hit Reset on July 8th via Hardly Art, and while it’s mostly darker fare compared to the group’s lighthearted first album and her danceable Le Tigre catalog, they’ve unveiled “I’m Done” today, one of the breeziest tunes on it.

Imagine one of those surf-inflected musical break sequences from a Hanna-Barbera cartoon, only fitted with lyrics about internet harassment and unwanted opinions. The late Poly Styrene would’ve been very proud; you can hear the song below via Stereogum.
