Animal Collective, John Cale, Libertines and More Play Paris Tribute to Velvet Underground & Nico

Since it’s never a bad time to assemble an all-star team of left-field friends to salute one of the greatest underground rock albums of all-time, John Cale held such a tribute show last night at the Philharmonie de Paris. The former Velvet Underground guitarist played through all of 1967’s seminal Velvet Underground & Nico album (albeit out of order), along with tracks from follow-up White Light/White Heat, with special guests like Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees, Carl Barât and Pete Doherty of the Libertines, and Animal Collective (whose recent “Hocus Pocus” featured Cale) in tow.
