Detroit post-punks Protomartyr have returned with news of a new record just a year after their outstanding Under Color of Official Right. This new one’s called The Agent Intellect and it’s due out October 9 on Hardly Art. But what’s more, the former SPIN cover stars also shared “Why Does It Shake?,” a shuddering single that frontman Joe Casey told Pitchfork is a “back-handed ode to humanity’s resilient self-regard.” But bitter lyricism aside, it really takes off when the guitars whip into a shoegazey windstorm and Casey, too, is reduced to just a single man singing against the void. Listen to the track here while you start the long wait for the full record.
