If Chris Martin is reeling in the romance department following his “conscious uncoupling” from wife Gwyneth Paltrow, he’s not showing it. He pulls double acting duty in Coldplay’s video for new single “Magic,” starring as two different magicians — one young and chivalrous; the other older, drunk, and abusive. Directed by Jonas Åkerlund, the silent-movie-inspired clip features Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star Ziyi Zhang as another magician who Martin alternately courts and hurts. As the younger man, Martin gets to fly, make objects levitate, and otherwise save the day. But the elder sorcerer, um, spells trouble. As far as the single is concerned, it’s a much catchier, more accessible track than Coldplay’s Bon Iver-channeling “Midnight,” the first song they released off their upcoming LP Ghost Stories. The album is due May 19 from Parlophone/Atlantic Records.
