People’s Choice Awards Want You to Choose Katy Perry

Katy Perry didn’t put out an album in 2011, but the 40 million “People” who voted to select the People’s Choice Awards nominees still think she had a monster year (she did). The singer picked up seven nominations for the 2012 show, more than any other musician, though her nods spanned music (Favorite Song of the Year for “E.T.”), film (Favorite Animated Movie Voice for The Smurfs), and TV (Favorite TV Guest Star for her cameo on How I Met Your Mother).

The People’s Choice Awards are that magical place were the equivalent of the Album of the Year — Favorite Album — could go to Britney Spears and Maroon 5 is fighting for Favorite Band because Adam Levine had a gig on The Voice this year. Also, it looks like the Awards are courting a little controversy, pitting Chris Brown against Rihanna in for Favorite R&B Artist.

The show airs live on CBS January 11 straight from Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater. Here who you’ll be rooting for, other than Ms. Teenage Dream, in the music categories (voting is open until December 6):
