Anaheim, California’s second most divisive alt-rock quartet (after No Doubt) may never become an important band: Filmmaker Michel Gondry’s pet punks arrived too late for the garage revival, and singer Richie James Follin still squeals too much like Jack White’s little brother. But these precious longhairs solve the sprawling inconsistency of their previous records by reducing the number of tracks to a sensible ten and sharpening their scuzz by ultra-sweetening it. “Repetition” could not be less original, but for two slam-bang minutes, its self-descriptive groove fully compensates.
