SPIN photog Ian Witlen shares the stories behind some of his best recent Miami-area concert shots.

"I wasn't expecting their show to be as energetic as I'd remembered from a few years ago," says SPIN's Miami-based photographer Ian Witlen of the pop-punk Canucks' set at the 2,600-seat venue. "A one point, Derrick Whibley plays guitar holding his pick in his teeth, but their tour manager wouldn't let me shoot that."

"They're a local band I've known for about 10 years now," says Witlen, who shot all the photos in this gallery. "They usually sound kinda like Kings of Leon, but this particular lineup was a true rock band, very energetic, a lot of Delta blues. They have pretty big following down here."

4. Aiden, Warped Tour at Cruzan Amphitheater

4/15

Witlen was wandering the soggy grounds of the Warped Tour venue when a crowd caught his eye. "It was raining pretty hard all day and saw a crowd of about 300 girls, age 13 to 17 going crazy for this guy."

5.The A.K.A.s, Warped Tour at Cruzan Amphitheater

5/15

The weather nearly spoiled the party for this touring Philly band. "Right before their set started there was a torrential downpour, which made the crowd, which had been pretty big, totally scatter and the band had to stop after their first song. About a half-hour later, it was safe for them to play, and everyone came back. They put on a great show."

6.Kevin Rudolph "Welcome to the World" video shoot, Miami

6/15

Witlen was invited to shoot behind-the-scenes photos for Lil Wayne's rock protégé in a warehouse where one of the Fast and the Furious movies was filmed. "Birdman was there, but Kid Cudi had to shoot his part separately. Even though this is Cash Money's rock act, the video had a real urban feel to it. This shoot went about 15 hours, I heard that song a hundred times."

7.Senses Fail, Warped Tour at Cruzan Amphitheater

7/15

"What they play isn't exactly hardcore, and every time I've seen them, the singer has a different NYC hardcore T-shirt on," says Witlen.

Even teen mall-punkers need to take a breather sometimes. "This is when Brokencyde were onstage," says Wiitlen. "There were about 45 people trying to mosh, everyone else decided to take a seat."

9.Hey Monday, Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale

9/15

"This is a local band from West Palm Beach, and the singer here is Cassidy Pope," says Witlen. "They signed to Decaydance and toured with Fall Out Boy but this their first show at home on their first headlining tour. The place was packed."

10.Surfer Blood, Propaganda in West Palm Beach

10/15

"Another band from West Palm Beach that's been getting a lot of national attention," says Witlen. "They're kinda surf rock, which probably isn't that surprising."

11.Warped Tour at Cruzan Amphitheater

11/15

"This is right after All Time Low, a guy from the Truth campaign against smoking. I was surprised there was such a large crowd."

12.Dear and the Headlights, backstage at Warped Tour

12/15

This Phoenix-based alt-country act sounded a bit different than the other bands on the day's bill. "I heard them for the first time at Bonnaroo, which is more their scene than Warped," says Witlen. "They're kind of countryish, but a little pop.

13.Frank Turner, backstage at Pompano Beach Amphitheater

13/15

"He's pretty big in the U.K., so it's sort of a twist for him to be opening up this tour for Sum 41 and Offspring,"says Witlen. "He calls himself a country punk – he's a really nice guy, really funny, and he played a few of his lesser-known songs for us backstage."

14.This Providence, Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale

14/15

"They're a pop-punk band from Seattle -- they played right before Hey Monday. They had a huge crowd there."

15.Gallows at Warped Tour

15/15

"They're one of my favorite bands I'd ever shot," says Witlen. "Frank Carter hopped into the crowd, I jumped the barrier of the photo pit and followed him. He played his entire set along with his bassist in the mosh pit."
