News Roundup: Hives, My Morning Jacket, Atmosphere, Say Anything

On the heels of rolling out fifth LP The Black and White Album on an jaunt opening for Maroon 5 — and telling SPIN.com all about it and more — Swede garage rock sensations the Hives are now preparing to hit the road solo, and give audiences the nation across another dose. Why? Well, as frontman Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist said in Spin: “The Hottest Band on Earth Should Get Everything They Want, No?”

My Morning Jacket, acclaimed for their live performances, which will be one of many hitting SXSW this March, have revealed a few details for the follow-up to 2005’s mind-blowing set Z.Though the forthcoming LP has yet-to-be titled, it will drop June 10via ATO, and to celebrate the release Jim James and crew will performJune 20 at New York’s Radio City Music Hall. Hooray!

Minneapolis-based indie rappers Slug and Ant, collectively known as Atmosphere, will return April 22 with When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint that Shit Gold, the proper LP follow up 2005’s You Can’t Imagine How Much Fun We’re Having. And for the early birds, there’s plenty of worms: the first pressingsof the new record arrive with a live DVD, and gold-embossed hard coverbook containing “lyrics, album credits” and — get this! — “anillustrated children’s story written by Slug.”
