Green Day Cover ‘Simpsons’ Jingle

Citizens of Springfield, prepare to rock! Green Day will cover the quirky, Danny Elfman-penned Simpsons theme song for the soundtrack to The Simpsons Movie,the silver-screen adaptation of the blockbuster TV animated series thathits theatres July 27. In addition to having been confirmed for an appearancein the film, the band — Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool– will punk up the discernible jingle and dispatch it as a single July24, three days prior to the film’s release. According to Billboard.com,the single will be available via three different companies and in asmany forms; Warner Bros. will offer the traditional Green Day single,Fox Music will release a digital score album via its website and otheroutlets, and, in the most Homer approved move, Extreme Music willrelease 25,000 pink doughnut cases to select retailers such as BestBuy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, and Barnes & Noble.
