Brit Award Nominees Announced

Brit Award officials have announced their 2007 nominees, and Lily Allen is this year’s list topper, with nominations in the categories of Best Female Solo Artist, British Album, British Single, and British Breakthrough Act. Mustering three bids each, Gnarls Barkley and Muse weigh in just above the Killers, Kasabian, Bob Dylan, and Amy Winehouse, who garnish two nods each. Oasis are set to receive the Outstanding Contribution to Music award and perform alongside Snow Patrol, Scissor Sisters, the Killers, Take That, Corinne Bailey Rae, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Amy Winehouse.

Additionally, Jarvis Cocker, who is pitted against Thom Yorke and others in the British Male Solo Artist category, has expressed interest in penning the Eurovision tune, NME.com reports. Cocker promises he won’t try to upstage Morrissey for the honor, though. “I’m not going to compete with Mozzer if he’s going to do it. I’m sure he’ll write something good,” Jarvis told BBC. “The door is always open if they want to ask me. I’ve always wanted to write one for them. Maybe I’ll do it next year.”

The Brit Awards ceremony takes place Feb. 14.
