Despite hailing from California, the perceived land of permanent suntans and palm trees, Sierra Swan offers a vision of a fairytale Christmas gathering on her yuletide chestnut, “It’s A Merry Time.” The flame-haired chanteuse leaves the bouncy jingle-belling to other singers, instead going for an epic, rock-infused ode to the season. In her husky alto drawl, Swan celebrates holiday traditions like snowball fights and the hanging of Christmas lights. And she pays homage to her elders: at Swan’s imagined gathering, “Old Blue Eyes is singing.”
Swan’s debut, Ladyland (Interscope/Custard Records), is out in stores now.
